More start-ups and more growth challenges

The good news is that more people are gaining the confidence in their ability to start their own business, with a rise in new start-ups of 3.7% in the last six months of 2014.

The number of active companies in the UK now exceeds 3.14 million.

It appears that there are many entrepreneurs out there who are getting started with realising their ambitions. However, statistics also show that growth for startups businesses is an issue with those generating income in excess of £2.5million falling from 23% to 21% in the same period. Similarly, those registered for VAT fell from 41% to 39% last year. This suggests either a deliberate effort to remain a small business or they are facing challenges.
